Course Overview

Fundamentals of Carpentry is a fully practical, workshop-based course designed to build strong, confident foundations in carpentry and joinery.

Throughout the course, participants will gain practical experience in:

  • Selecting, setting up, and safely using essential hand tools
  • Sharpening and maintaining chisels, planes, and saws
  • Marking out and cutting traditional woodworking joints
  • Constructing a small, framed door using traditional techniques
  • Understanding and carrying out traditional cut roofing
  • Making and fitting skirting boards and architraves
  • Hanging internal doors accurately
  • Fitting locks, latches, and associated ironmongery

Skills are taught progressively, allowing learners to build confidence and precision week by week while producing tangible, high-quality work.
